The last light at Virginia Beach does something to the sky that's hard to prepare for. It goes coral, then rose, then settles into this quiet, deep blue — and Riley and Warnie were right in the middle of all of it.
We started in golden hour; that warm window where everything goes soft and the two of them barely had to do anything at all. Then the sun dipped lower and we leaned into blue hour, adding a little flash to play with the light rather than fight it. And then — right as the sun officially set — we moved to the sand dunes, and the sky absolutely opened up. Rich pinks, deep reds, colors layered on top of each other in a way that felt almost theatrical.
The Location
Virginia Beach doesn't get enough credit as a portrait location. The open shoreline means you're shooting into an unobstructed horizon, the dunes add dimension and texture, and when the sky decides to show off — it really shows off.
The Approach
The goal is always to document what's actually happening rather than manufacture something that isn't there. Riley and Warnie were easy together, and that ease is what you see in the images. Clean, modern editing that stays true to what the evening looked like — nothing over-processed, nothing artificial.
